RICHARDS Albert "Snobby" Robert

Bob Richards-a man of many skills

"Snobby"Richards was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Richards and a grandson of Mrs. and Mrs. Charles Richards, who pioneered "Christmas Farm", Gnowangerup, early this century.

Coming to the district in the 1920's Bob was employed on farms as a teamster and general handyman and also began as a learner shearer.

A man of many skills, he was a self educated wireless repairer and added this to his occupation as bootmaker and leather worker when he returned to his trade in the 1930s.
It was this occupation which earned him the nick- name of "Snobby" Richards. He originally started his Boot repair business in a little building in Yougenup Road across the road opposite the old Co-op Building on the other corner.
In his younger days Bob played a good brand of football and represented his club in several Great Southern Carnivals.

After serving in the Army and World War II, Bob re-opened a boot repair shop adjoining his home, opposite the school and he continued operating until he re-tired.
It was during the War that Bob met Joyce Taylor who worked in the
local Economic Stores and they were married in 1956.
Sadly after a short illness Bob passed away in the Gnowangerup Hospital aged 89 years old.
